The cable whip offered here is needed if you want to connect a host terminal (eg a motherboard with four SATA ports) and a target terminal (eg an HDD backplane). The target is connected via a SFF8087 connector, also known as mini-SAS, and connected to four SATA interfaces of a host. One of the advantages of this interface is that the electrical signals from several hard disks or SSDs can be transmitted via this single connection.
